Indonesia's longest bridge connecting the island of Java(Surabaya) and Madura (Bangkalan) with a length of 5438 m stretch of the bridge, traverse Madura Strait. Laying the first stone in the National Bridge Construction longest held August 20, 2003 by President Megawati Sukarnoputri, within six years precisely June 10, 2009 President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono inaugurated Suramadu bridge which has the main goal is to accelerate the development in Madura Island while improving the welfare of its people. Suramadu bridge consists of three main parts, namely
- Overpass (causeway), built for connecting bridge construction with land on both sides of Surabaya and Bangkalan.
- The connecting bridge (bridge approach), connects the main bridge with a flyover which consists of two sections with a length of 672 meters each
- Main Bridge (main bridge), consists of three parts: two side spans 192 meters long and the main stretch of 434 meters with a long stretch, Main Bridge uses a cable stayed construction supported by the twin towers as high as 140 meters.
National longest bridge construction Construction used is a combination of three types of bridge length of 5438 meters, a width of 30 meters. This bridge has four lanes in both directions respectively lebar3,5 meters, plus two emergency lane with a width of 2.75 meters. In addition to the provision of facilities that allow users bridges, national longest bridge also comes with a special lane for motorcycles rider on each side of the right and left.
To accommodate cruise ships that cross the Madura Strait, this bridge provides a free space as high as 35 meters above sea level.
